SSL Mixing Boards @ NAB 2009

As always the NAB show brings out the best in audio and visual fidelity, so when one enters the North Hall where its all about the audio, you knew the Solid State Logic booth was going to be crowded.

With some of the most prolific and innovative products in history, this year SSL showcased their C100 Digital Broadcast Console, featuring a Blackrock processor system accompanied by the new B-RIO modular I/O rack, MORSE Stage Box and MORSE Router.

This means your processor sits in a standard 2U enclosure and comes with a quick release for the power supply. So if one happens to burn out (power surges do happen you know), you dont lose the entire board.

    From the website...
“The development of the new technology in Blackrock and B-RIO enhances the robustness, flexibility and space efficiency of the C100,” says Dan Duffell, head of marketing for SSL. “The C100 HD-S Console is the operational interface for a completely scalable, expandable system that is custom configured to precisely match client requirement, and the introduction of Blackrock enhances our capability to deliver what our customers need now and over the coming years.”

The C100 Digital Broadcast Console, streamlined for NAB

Not to be outdone, the C300 HD Master Studio System for post production is another industry leader. It can come with up to 512 mix inputs, 7.1 multichannel formatting for the 80 mix busses, and touchscreen controls in the middle for the machine and the monitor. Only the best.

    New 3ALITY DIGITAL 3D Camera @ NAB 2009

Burbank, CA based 3ALITY DIGITAL came out to NAB and displayed working models of their new "3flex" camera rigs used in making those 3D broadcasts Im sure you have all heard about. If you were at CES this year, you were treated to the first 3D broadcast available to consumers, and it was of the BCS Championship Game between Florida and Oklahoma. According to their press releases... "3flex camera systems use sophisticated artificial intelligence to sense the environment and ensure the highest image quality."

    Impressive.

Here is more from a recent press release about the new camera rigs and other products from 3ALITY DIGITAL...

The 3flex product line will consist of three rig models:

TS-2 Camera Rig System: 3D camera rig with beam splitter. The TS-2 accommodates zero to six inch inter-axial distance and features a fully motorized 3D camera rig with fast setup. This rig enables zoom tracking during shots. It is constructed with a lightweight, rugged carbon fiber body and offers full metadata output.

TS-3 Camera Rig System: 3D camera rig with side-by-side camera arrangement that is lightweight for use in situations where handheld rigs are required. The TS-3 offers the same functionality as the TS-2 using 3ality Digital controller and can, if necessary, be easily positioned or mounted on any rig from Steadicam(TM) to flying camera systems such as Spydercam(TM) or Cablecam(TM).

TS-4 Camera Rig System: Versatile modular side-by-side camera system that will hold any camera and lens combination. The TS-4 is ideal for long-range shots such as vista views and stadium shots. The TS-4 offers the same ease of use, zoom tracking, metadata outputs and functionality as the TS-2.

"Each of these rigs has played an integral role in our groundbreaking live-action 3D projects, from U2 3D to the first-ever live digital 3D broadcast of an NFL game in December 2008," said Gary Ushino, head of 3ality Digital Systems' camera division. "The rigs incorporate easily into existing systems and deliver exceptional performance under a wide range of demanding conditions. The versatility and quality of the rigs enabled us to do an average of 40 setups a day - and as many as 47 - on the shoot of Chuck vs. The Third Dimension for NBC."

    Pictures from PMA 2009

It was a festive atmosphere and a ton of fun at the South Hall of the Las Vegas convention center March 1st - 5th 2009, as the PMA Show took over the Hall showcasing innovations, achievements, and major developments for photographers worldwide. The PMA North America show is the largest for the community of imaging associates, boasting over 600 exhibitors and nearly 5 times as many attendees per day of the show.

Now I still have my cheezy & cheap digital camera and 32 MB memory card, so please excuse me for not having very many pictures, but I did catch this video of one of the AntiGravity performers going for a backflip and eating it... which I couldnt delete... since I laugh every time I look at it. Something about seeing someone fall makes me laugh.

At least when he fell, he fell with showmanship... lol

Now you see why I couldnt delete it. lol.

I would just like to thank Mike A. from Noritsu America, Mark from Wynit, the Liquid Image team, and all the guys from AAA Imaging Solutions for being such great associates to work with and great people to be around. I look forward to the next show I see you at!

Until Imaging USA, CES, or PMA 2010!

Pics from Phoenix, AZ - IMAGING USA 2009

The food was great, just a bit overpriced.

I will never again go to a photography convention with a cheezy digital camera & memory card from 2003...lol. Still, I had a great time and met many wonderful people. I'd just like to say thanks to the entire blogosphere, especially www.photoshopcafe.com, and all the forum posters who made attending the show possible for anyone who wanted to go. And to all the guys at Breathing Color as well, your new paper, amazing.

And lastly, Eli I promise I will buy that 8 Gig memory card once I get a new camera!

Pics & Cars From CES 2009

In the short time I lived in Vegas, I learned that there are 3 major weekends a year where the ongoing convention or show that is in town literally takes over Sin City. One of the biggest is definately the C.E.S., so this year I had to give in to my inner child & take myself out to the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show.

Now, Im a sucker for a sweet car, and seeing as how I spent 90% of my time in the Automotive Hall, I have to share some of these pics with ya'll. This really has nothing at all to do with finance, except for the ridiculous amounts of money these guys told me they spent designing some of these whips...

The $120k Charger - Minty Fresh

42" TV & a COSTCO size bottle of Scotch

(not to be used while driving, of course)

    26" Baby

    Escalaaaaade!

    Baby Blue Bentley

    Nice eh?

Not to be outdone, some of the the individual company displays were equally impressive, displaying new technologies and new equipment. Microsoft had a huge booth. So did Intel, Samsung, and Sony. Here are some of the other pictures I took:

Microsoft Featured really nothing new, though they were heavily promoting their MSN network... no wonder Apple skipped the show...

Sharp's display was interesting, very massive. So was Panasonic. Overall tho people were buzzing more about the job done by Samsung.

Panasonic did well in unveiling its new VIERA HD TV Channel as well as this new "thin-profile" HD screen for plasma as well as LCD displays. The screen is only 1/3 of 1" thick, almost as thin as a credit card, and uses 1/3 of the energy used by TV's of the same size. And oh yah by the way, they have a 37", 42", & 50" model...WOW.

I had alot of fun and I must give a big thank you out to Timothy Trujillo and everyone at GAMETESTERS for getting me a pass into the show. I hope to be there next year, and next time with a better digital camera. :)
